The Walmart.ca App has allowed the Canadian customer to blend both their in-store and online experience. The app paved the way for active in-market programs that coincided with its launch such as the Walmart Pickup and Delivery grocery

Challenges

  • Integrating brick-and-mortar experience with online experience, with emphasis on the growing grocery delivery and pickup market in Canada

  • Reminding Canadians that Walmart Canada is a one-stop shop for everything the household needs including fresh groceries and packaged goods

  • Walmart Canada app was launched just before Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods

User testing

  • The product design, site analytics, and site optimization teams used  Usertesting.com as the source of feedback beyond the walls of Walmart Canada

  • Real-time tests were conducted for iterations of the prototypes

  • Elements of service design were also tested with the in-store employees to see how they would interact with the app, as well as how they usually operate regarding inventory management, customer service, among others

My role

  • Worked in Agile with a team of product managers, UX designers, web developers, graphic designers, data scientists, and marketing executives

  • Wrote the copy on all UI components (CTA buttons, menu options, push notifications, onboarding directives, etc.) with constant updates depending on stress points according to what the analytics team’s findings

  • Note: The app was designed, developed, and deployed within a short period of time (6 weeks)
